Books featuring Cristina's art
Learn to Paint Happy written and illustrated by Cristina
North Light Books, a division of F + W Publications printed and published Cristina's 110 page art instructional book in 2002 and 2004. Inspired by the how-to-paint books of her childhood, Cristina wrote this to "give back" to others who wanted to learn to paint.
Born in Los Angeles, Cristina contributed to Mexican American Art.
Author, Gary Keller, featured Cristina Acosta on page 18, in this definitive book. Unknowingly (to both of them), he featured her great grandfather, Enrique Acosta, the Mexican movie star of both silent and spoken film in his book, "The Cisco Kid, American Hero".
Cristina illustrated "When Woman Became the Sea"
Published by Beyond Words in 1998, when Cristina's daughter, Isabella was five years old, Costa Rican creation story retold by author, Susan Strauss.
La Conquistadora as The Puebloan Corn Maiden and Dine Spider Woman.
Author Amy Remensnyder featured Cristina's ex-vote retablo on page. Painted in the tradition of her New Mexican ancestors through her personal, multi-cultural perspective.
Architectural Color Specialist
Creating color plans unique to each client is Cristina's interior design specialty. Years of creating color stories for product lines, paintings and color theory studies informed Cristina to create a highly intuitive and flowing method for her clients.
Cascade Middle School, Bend, Oregon 2005
The 1970s Bauhaus inspired architecture was in need of a contemporary color plan. In 2005, Cristina developed this plan based on historical Bauhaus color palettes crossed with the 1970s West Coast colors typical during that era.
Natural Neutrals
Pink, found in the surrounding lava rock studded landscape blends with local stones and natural wood hues in the western home.
SurfBoard Stairwell
Bright colors intersect with gold and white neutrals in this two-story residential stairwell.
Five Colors Calming
These clients LOVED color. They worked with Cristina to create an interesting color plan whose sum of hues would equal "calm". This great-room architecture's complex shapes were a pleasure to create a color placement plan.
Billboard Mural and Lettering Artist
Twenty-four feet long by twelve feet tall, Cristina hand painted each billboard in oils and /or sign paints using brushes, airguns and rollers in a warm garage studio, working on a rolling scaffold. The sign-shop crew installed her boards throughout Central Oregon. After Cristina graduated from University of Oregon (BFA 1988) in Eugene, Oregon, she returned to her ranch in Bend, Oregon. She worked at Carlson Sign as their lead and only mural and lettering artist. Billboards were either paper like the the Toyota and Dachstein advertisements, or metal sections (like the Budweiser ad). Painting was limited to no more than three ten-hour days of production time. By 1993, computers had taken over billboard painting and Cristina moved on to teach art classes at Central Oregon Community College in Bend, Oregon. Her billboard painting experience gave Cristina invaluable painting and color mixing experience she then translated into her expertise as an architectural color designer.
