Oil Painting Exhibit:  Antler & Vase, Green

Antler_Green_oil_web.jpg

Title: Antler and Vase, Green

Medium: Oil and beeswax on 100% cotton paper

Size: 22" x 22"

Image Inspiration:
Lush texture, vibrant color, beeswax & varnish create delicious layers of color. The lyrical lines of the botanicals mimic the lines of the shed horn. A shed horn is a antler that has been naturally shed by the animal. Shed horns are symbols of rejuvenation and vitality, some peoples believe that eating powdered shed horns will endow them with those qualities. I find those qualities in the flowers and leaves I've paired them with. This is part of a series of antler art that includes one painting in a main color: red, yellow, green and blue. This is the only painting of this series of four paintings that includes a deer skull. I chose to pair the skull with the green color of verdant earth to symbolize the cycle of nature.
