Small Spaces Sport Strong Colors
I like most every
color! That makes choosing the color palette for my own home
harder than you may think! The color palette I developed for my
own home reflects my love of lush bright hues paired with a
modern vibe. My husband, Randall Barna, designed
this home to reflect a
mid-century modern sensibility. With that sensibility in mind,
I morphed the Danish modern concept of strong primary
colors mixed with natural woods into our color palette. My home
reflects our family's athletic, artistic, upbeat personality.
Modern lines and vibrant colors frame hanging bunches of
chilies, a vintage surfboard and images of Mexican Madonnas I
painted. It's a blend of my Latino cultural heritage and art
career, our daughter Isabella's athleticism and my husband
Randall's engineering. Handmade items fill every room,
including dishes I painted, sheets we dyed, a playful mural my
daughter painted and my fine art printings. We carved words
like Play, Love and
Bonita into ceramic tiles that cover stair risers. The
vibrant tones are grounded with an earthy gold hue that
reappears in the various rooms. I recently added cork
flooring throughout most of my home (the bathroom flooring
is Marmoleum, a natural "old fashioned" linoleum
product). I believe in investing in renewable products. See the results.
