Dear Friends,

Cristina_portrait_blk_shirt.jpgI hope you are enjoying the change of seasons. Standing-Horse-Turquoise.jpg

This month I finished a few new paintings. Among them are two new additions to my Animal Spirit series in oil, Standing Horse and Horses Running Verdes (Green). Years ago I had horses and rode regularly. Though I have since moved on to the easy-care of a mountain bike, I’ve been feeling the call to explore and reflect upon what I learned from having horses in my life. I included them in the OHSU exhibit.

If you’re in Portland, Oregon, you can see an exhibit of my art in the BICC Gallery on the Oregon Health Sciences University (OHSU) campus.  Curated to honor Hispanic Heritage month this October, my solo exhibit is up until mid-November. Also in Portland is an invitational group exhibit at Onda Arte Latina including a couple of pieces that I shared with you last month, LaSirena/The Mermaid and the Huerta/Chavez retablo.

In Bend, Oregon, I’m giving an hour-long presentation at Central Oregon Community College (COCC) at noon on Halloween day in the Hitchcock Auditorium. Last year I spent Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos, Nov. 2) in Ocotopec, Mexico just north of Cuernavaca. I’ll be sharing my photos and experiences of the holiday.travel-chocSkulls.jpg

Cooking a Hispanic meal to share with your friends and family is easy with my simple menu of recipes for a dinner that’s a fusion of New Mexican and Californian Hispanic cooking. From a roast beef dish called Carne Adovada to Hot Chocolate Cookies, the savory flavor of chilies brightens the menu. The orange taste of Creamsicle Flan is a perfectly sweet ending.

May your days have the perfect endings and beginnings.

Live Happy,

Cristina
