Image Inspiration:
A wonderful chef, my friend TR McCrystal recently commissioned
this painting of his wife and children. It’s titled,
Jen’s Garden.
The painting illustrates the rich and happy life they’ve
created, and it’s also the name of their restaurant,
Jen’s Garden, in
Sisters, Oregon. The restaurant is getting all sorts of
attention, being favorably reviewed in Sunset Magazine, and many local
and regional publications. Order the prix fixe five course
dinner and enjoy the magic. Call for reservations and check out
the painting while you’re there.
I began this commission with very little direction from TR . He
asked me to paint the piece in my Paint Happy style and to use the
color green. I know his wife and children, so I relaxed my mind
and this is the image that flowed out. When I was done, I
realized that I'd painted my idea of Jen's life as a garden.
She is a very creative woman -- a talented Pastry chef,
horsewoman, mother and more. She is also a very sanguine and
lyrical personality. I love how this painting conveys her inner
and outer beauty and the unique personalities of their children
in the dance of life.
